Bucket List Friends It's Not Harder Than Cancer

Training for a New Adventure

Three weeks after my epic Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon experience, I committed to my next physical challenge.

I signed up for the Springbrook Sprint Triathlon on Saturday, August 2.

The three components of this triathlon are a 200-yard swim, a nine-mile bike ride and a three-mile run. The ride and run I’m not worried about, although I hope all feeling returns to my feet in time. I can swim, but I’ve not ever done it for speed. That will be my challenge. Fortunately, my Team in Training friends have swim practice on Thursday mornings. I plan to join them this week.

I signed up after a conversation with my friend Anthony, who was part of my support team for the marathon. My friend Adam, who did every mile of the marathon with me, is slated to do the Challenge Knoxville Half Olympic Triathlon on Sunday, May 17. And Zane, one of my biggest supporters, encouraged me to find my next thing the day after the marathon.

I have been pondering a tri for a while. Anthony, Adam and Zane have given me the sparks of encouragement I needed to take the plunge, as it were.

It’s going to be a great summer!
